Expert care for Birth, Babies & Breastfeeding
Expecting parents quickly realize that having a non-judgemental support person who is calm, knowledgeable, experienced, and “there just for you” can make a huge difference throughout pregnancy and during their labour & birth experience.
A Birth Doula is a professional, non-medical support person that can help you and your partner navigate and cope with pregnancy, labour and birth. A Doula does not ‘catch’ the baby, do medical procedures, check dilation or blood pressure (that’s the job of your doctor or midwife). A doula is still a VERY important member of your birth team because their only job is to focus on you!
Our Birth Doulas have attended births at homes, the Toronto Birth Centre, and at every hospital in the Greater Toronto Area! We are proud to support parents regardless of their birth wishes. Whether your goal is an un-medicated birth, if you are unsure of the interventions and medications you will choose, if you know FOR SURE that you want an epidural, if you are planning a VBAC or are having a scheduled cesarean, we are here for you! Everyone can benefit from help, reassurance, information and support during their birth.
We support ALL kinds of birth!
Our doulas work in teams of 2 so you get to know them both throughout your pregnancy, and they share the on-call time. This helps our clients feel more confident that they are getting personalized care, vs having the possibility of a ‘back up doula’ coming to their birth who they may not have even met. All our Birth support packages also include 2 hours of Lactation Consultant support with RN/IBCLC Angela or Postpartum Doula support if you prefer!
Prenatal education is also a big part of feeling prepared! Check out our options for prenatal education in the Virtual Academy, or book a one-on-one session so you can feel confident and ready!
Prenatal education can be added to any package.
From customized, one-on-one Prenatal classes or Birth Refresher sessions, to on-demand online courses for Baby Care Education and Breastfeeding Prep, we can help you feel ready and prepared no matter what you need!
Virtual Pregnancy & Birth Support is also available, and it’s a great option!
On-call Virtual Doula Support works well in many situations: if there are restrictions due to hospital policy and only one support person can be present for birth; for experienced parents who just want someone on-call if they have questions or need reminders during labour; if parents don’t need physical support during their birth, but they still want someone on-call and available to answer questions, provide advice, suggest coping strategies and be available day or night when they need reassurance!
On-call virtual support is a great option for those “it’s-the middle-of-the-night-and-I-think-my-water-just-broke moments”, so you always have someone available who you can talk to, and ask for advice! Use as much or as little support as you need, whether you just want advice and reassurance during early labour before you head to the hospital, or you want a professional support person available 24 hours a day so they help you by phone/video/text throughout your labour and birth, then you need a Virtual Doula!
Having a dedicated, calm, knowledgeable, patient, non-judgemental support person (who knows you, your partner and your preferences) can make a huge difference to your birth experience.
Nutmeg’s owner and founder Angela Grant Buechner, is a Birth Doula, Registered Nurse, Lactation Consultant, and Newborn Care specialist with 20 years of experience, and she has built a team of professional Birth Doulas who will support you and your partner every step of the way, no matter how you wish to birth.
